Office Deopt has their 100 DVD-R & DVD+R bundles on sale for $17.99.

I'm new to digital, do I need -R or +R? I don't know the difference. My MBP should be here in a few weeks - I think it reads both. Which is better? I only recently found out it's better to back up on the DVD's instead of the CD's!

Any tips!
Blessings,
Renee

Hey there Renee,

You are correct that your MBP will take both types. A long time ago PCs primarily used +R and MACs used -R.

Now here is the trick part of your statement. DVD better than CDs? Well if you mean better as in DVDs hold more yes. Technically the CDs have better longevity.

The next part is the use of OFFICE DEPOT brand DVDs. Store brands are not generally the best use of money.

One more thing. If you label your discs with a sharpie you should not write on the face of the disc but that little clear circle around the hole in the center. The sharpie can and will over time corrode the surface of the disc.

-Best of luck,
Bill

I use +R on all my macs and as far as I'm concerned, they're the way to go.

Stay away from store brands. I like sony +R. Always do a verification while burning.

Wow, there's so much more to this than I thought!

Thank you all for the help!
Any other suggestions?

So sad we can't save $$ with the store brand! And I did not know that about the sharpie!

Thanks!

Why +R? If you ever want to burn a DVD movie for playing in an older DVD player, I think -R is more widely acceptable, isn't it? Just curious what you all know about +R as opposed to -R.

Pray tell!
