I got an inquiry today about shooting a destination wedding in South Florida. (YAY!) But I have never done this on my own before!

How do I price it with my packages?
Do I include travel costs and if so, who makes the travel plans?

I know there are a lot of you who do this all the time.. help me! Please and thanks!

You can price it any way you like, but I'd recommend it be one of your higher packages + a premium for:
  • Being gone for an extended period of time -- how much is that worth?
  • Having to lug your gear through the awful airline system -- how much is that hassle worth?
  • Doing a wedding outside of your normal area.
  • The cost of travel for the tickets, rental car, hotel, and travel insurance/alternate itinerary (read: separate airline and refundable tix).
You should make your travel plans because that puts you in control of getting to the destination. Some people are terrible travel planners and the last thing you want is the bride or someone else scheduling an itinerary that is either too many connections, too tight as far as transfers/layovers, too inconvenient timewise, etc.

There's a lot to it! I'm sure the more seasoned destination pros will have a much better answer for you, but I figured I'd drop my .15 yuan on you... thumbsup.gif

Good luck.

Thanks Damon!

Yeah thats kind of what I was thinking about the plans. Should I ask about travel budget from the bride?

Keep em coming! Thanks!

I would reccomend deffinetly making your own arrangements and keeping it as simple as possible showing your packages with 1 price that covers ur usual package + travel expenses and not itemizing travel expenses to the bride/groom. Damon makes some good points above, I think he about covered it lol!

Oh, I forgot to add:

DON'T FLY WITH US AIRWAYS!

(Because they suck and cancel flights for no reason and have no customer service phone number!)

There's a great video on Cut Frame TV (Formerly known as SimplePhoto) where Neil answers an OSP topic with a video post.

Definitely worth the time to listen to the whole thing.

I just watched it again this morning in preparation for my first destination wedding in south Florida. Some good stuff in there.
