with a little note that said "contact www.apple.com/ipodsupport"
and then the tears broke out
it's only two years old
does this happen?
is it gone?
a friend told me to hook it up to itunes and just reformat the pod
but it won't even recognize it
the battery is dead too
i have to make a call to apple support
but just wanted to know if anyone knew what was going on
or if i should just start looking for a new one?

Yes it happens. Yes it's probably gone. There is a reason that they release a new one every year...that's when the previous models start breaking.
The first one I had lasted 2 years, the next one 18 months and so far the new one is going strong at 6 months.

My iPod gave me the sad face last year and I just dumped it cause there was nothing I could do. I'd just get a new one.

Can't you use disk utilities on your mac and sort of reformat it? Sorry I don't know the technical wording for it. I have had my iPod for about 3 years and it still works fine!

Maybe the hard drive is toast? Do you have a hard drive or micro drive model? I bet there's some tutorials online about swapping them out. I'm guessing if you're getting a message on the screen then the media is bad.

You know, as an afterthought, you could always hawk it on ebay....I got 50 bucks for my broken one and put it towards my new one.

If you are anywhere near an Apple store I would at least let one of the "geniuses" llok at it. It's worth a shot right? Good luck
