What do you get when you put a 70-200 and a 28-75mm lens together?

Macro coupling fun!

Yes, that's a PERIOD from a keyboard. :-D

AHHHHHHHHHH I love testing stuff out. It's so much fun!!!!!!!

(technical geek notes: one lens on cam, Autofocus. Another lens reversed (lens to lens) on the front of the other lens, handheld. F2.8 on the camera's lens. Manual focus set to infinity on the reversed lens. Focus by foot-zoom. smile.gif Focus on the 70-200 + 28-75 was about 1/4 inch. I had to be almost ON what I was shooting to focus. Focus was easier with the 28-75mm and 50mm reversed)

Dude, that's crazy. Didn't know that was even possible.

haha I have a friend who shoots bug macros all day. This is how he does it. Can you say RING SHOT saturday?

My 100 macro 2.8 is way easier than that wink.gif
MattA
Easier...but not cheaper! lol

(oh yeah and 100 2.8 macro is 1:1 macro. a 200mm coupled with a 50mm is a 4:1 macro and basically huuuuuuuuuuuuuuge! Coupled with a 24mm it's 8:1)

I used to do this all the time at my job. I worked at a place that made high-speed networking chips. I'd take pictures of the dice. You know, the "brains" of a microchip. I could get a 1/8" square die and fill the 35mm frame. I often used a 200 with a 24 reversed. Even at f/22 I could only get the flat plane of the die in focus. The teeny-tiny contacts coming off the die would be OOF.

Wow, this works! But you have to be SPOT on! It may even be too close for some rings. (Note to self: Clean rings!!!) Mine, with the little stones, looks a bit busy, but I bet it would be killer on a big stone. (Another note to self: buy big rock!!!)

Thanks for sharing, Matt. It was a learning experience. Plus I noticed a diamond missing from my sweet 16 ring. sad.gif

How did you do that? My guess put 70-200 is on the cam then? Put 24-70 in front of the 70-200?

How did you connect those? Do you need to buy some connector 77mm type a thing?

MattA
most of mine are 70-200 with a reversed 50mm. You can buy couplers - I was handholding the 50mm on the front of the 70-200 though. Just depends how serious you wanna get.

I want to see a side by side with your combo versus the 100 2.8. Matt can you go out and pick up a big ROCK and try it with window light?

Thanks man!

Pshhh why couple when you can just reverse? Lol then again when the dof is this rediculously thin line going accross the center and it takes an immense amount of effort to get anything in focus.

I still haven't gotten a real decent shot with the reversed 50 yet, but then again i've been taking pictures of ants and bees.
I'll attach one for giggles.

This is un-cropped and sooc except for a bit more compression. The focus is almost on his wing's shoulder joint.
