Full Version: gateway 24" on a MBP?

I am about to place my order for the 15" macbook pro! I can't really afford the apple display right now. But I notice the 24" gateway monitor on sale at Circuit City for $500 something (I know it was under $600).

Does anyone have experience with this monitor or know anything about it's quality?

Blessings & Thanks,
Renee

Did you know apple has a refurb section?

Also, my 17"mpb just came in. It has the hi-res screen(1920x1200). It is incredible and I can easily see this being the only computer/screen combo that a lot of us really need. It is NOT the led backlight (not yet available in the 17") but is i extremely bright, crisp and clear.

Why not get the 20" iMac? or 24"? I am just wondering. We are LOVING our iMac... it has been a HUGE hit at every wedding so far. Anyway, just thought I'd ask. smile.gif (We actually still wish we had a laptop as well for flights)

Gateway has pretty good monitors. I just looked at the specs for their 24" one that Circuit City has on sale, so I assume it is the same one, and the specs look absolutely fine. Gateway is a reputable company as well. So, if you can get a good deal on that monitor, go for it.

So you know though, Samsung & Dell LCDs are known for their color and brightness. Just something to consider. We have two Samsung SyncMasters and couldn't be happier with them. The color is vibrant and correct.

Just thought I'd share what I know. Enjoy your macbook pro!

get a mac display... either refurb or from the educational section. they're MUCH better than the gateway displays...

I just purchased the Gateway 24" - It's a great display for the money!

The only thing I don't like about it is how it handles gradients.
The colors, brightness & contrast are fantastic.
Plus it flips to vertical which is great for reading blogs or working on tall images in PS.

I just bought an 19 inch HP display and it is awesome! Screen looks as good as the acd to me!

The big Dell displays are great, and a good value, too smile.gif Plus, they are pretty light, which is good if you're going to be transporting it...

Hi Johnny!
Are you able to calibrate it? I was also reading reviews on the gateway that mentioned a buzz noise from the power cord. Is yours doing that? How long have you had it? Are you using it with a MBP?

And finally, do you mind if I copy your quote about each job being a self-portrait?

Blessings,
Renee

I would LOVE to get an imac! But I travel in spurts for work and to visit family. Also I want to be able to move around - living room, cafe, dinning room table. I'm afraid if I get the imac I will be stuck in one room alot (like I am now). I am just making the switch to digital, and I am guessing I will be spending a ton of time learning to edit & playing with photoshop (and visiting OSP smile.gif). My hubby would miss me even more! He already refers to the chair in front of our current desktop as my "perch".

Renee,

Calibration was a snap.
Zero Buzzing noises - but I've only had it for about 2 weeks.
I do not have an MBP, would love one - don't see why you couldn't use it with one.

The self-portrait quote isn't mine - I found it on an inspirational calendar... use it to your hearts content. thumbsup.gif

Johnny,

Thanks for the replies! Can't wait to start using that quote. It seems to have had an impact on me.

Did you use a calibating gizmo (spider, eye2eye, etc.)?
Did you but it on line?
So glad yours is not buzzing!

Glad the quote had an impact on you - it did the same to me when I first read it and summed up how I feel about what I do.

The calibration tool I use is the Spider - works great.
And I purchased the monitor at Best Buy - saw it cheaper somewhere else, they price matched and that gave me enough cash back to upgrade my graphics card. thumbsup.gif
