I recently started trying to learn InDesign for Album Design, and I started out with something simple, ie making my labels with my logo to stick onto equipment and inside books etc. When I went to print, I couldn't get my black to come out anything other than middle gray, no matter what I did. Has anyone else had this problem? What am I doing wrong?

I'm guessing it's a color space issue. Make sure your profile and blend space are all set to sRGB, not CMYK. The options are all at the bottom of the 'edit' pulldown.
