Will ShowIt work with RAW images? Or what is the best way to use this ina RAW workflow? I think I read somewhere that DJ is shooting all RAW is that correct?
thanks

Hey Jason,

ShowIT will not directly work with RAW images. What many of us Canon users who shoot RAW and show slideshows do is to set our cameras to shoot RAW+Small JPEG. We then use the small JPEGs to show the slideshows and run ShowIT on.

I (and most others here) don't even download the RAW images until we get back to our homes after the event.

Hope that helps!

That does help. So to follow your workflow, when you are at the wedding, you open the card in your laptop and sort by file type and take only the JPEG's. Then you hold the cards until you get home. That assumes that you have alot of cards to hold every image without having to download, correct? How many do you use?

Right now, we are just downloading like crazy, backing up to hard drive and reformatting. I know it's dangerous, I need to get more cards!!!!

thanks

Jason -

We designed showit for speed, and working with RAW images takes a lot of time, patience, and processing power. Not so fast...

As Chris mentioned small jpgs is the only way to go when trying to get a slide show up in a limited amount of time. Currently showit will only process jpg files.

Jason, I was doing things like you are now with the formating method. I was shooting all RAW+Small JPEG all on (gulp!) THREE 1 gig cards! (we formatted like crazy!). Anyways, I just bit the bullet and bought about 20 gigs of mostly 2 gig cards. Definetly worth it. Helps me sleep better at night. smile.gif

I think I will join you soon.

What do you carry your cards in? Right now they stay in my pocket! I know that is real professional and all, but I am looking to do it better.

thanks for the help.

My Tenba Camera bag, holds all my CF cards in little pouches...It can hold up to 36 cards. It's a GREAT bag.

Check it out

The pouches for the cards are a little tough to see, but they are in that flap section that folds over the storage bay area. You can even fit a card reader in there. This bag was MADE for digital shooters. So nice!
Chris Humphreys

Of course, I also recommend you carry Canon gear....not Nikon. smile.gif

I have to ask, is that Nikon equipment I see in the Tenba bag? biggrin.gif

Sorry I didn't read the last one!

I recommend Canon too!

...so what camera/lens is that in your Avatar? (just curious since most of canon's long lenses are white)
Chris Humphreys

Nikkor 300 f2.8. smile.gif

Long story, but basically I was shooting a soccer tournament last year with another guy (who WAS a Nikon shooter, but has since converted to Canon) and after one of the games we were joking around taking pictures of each other on his long lens. It was kinda silly. smile.gif

So, back to ShowIt, I am so unfamiliar with slideshows at weddings, I don't do them at all. What do you use to make the slideshow ocnce you have applied the effects with ShowIt? Is that a feature of the software as well?
jason
Reuben
I might be wrong but I dont think ShowIT does the actual slide show. I think most of the guys here are using iphoto. I use ACDsee7 pro for my slideshows (it's pretty limited though).
JeffersonTodd
Reuben you are right, ShowIT currently does not create the actual slide show. Although I know this is their next step on the software. They mainly wanted to get this part out because they know we can get by using other software for the slideshow, and also because we are so impatient.

Isn't that the whole point of ShowIT anyway? laughing.gif

LOL! Definitely!! biggrin.gif

Exactly! smile.gif showit is for making images look amazing fast...

We are thinking about having showit create the slide shows as well, but there are so many good and easy options so we didn't go there, yet.

Mac screen saver, ACDsee7, iPhoto,, iViewMedia Pro, Etc.
Chris Humphreys

The Mac screen saver is great for slideshows. I know a few people use iPhoto, but I think if you're really in it for speed saving images into a folder and then selecting that folder to be the screensaver is the fastest approach and it looks great!

But what happens when someone touches the trackpad or the keyboard? What do you do about that?
Chris Humphreys

I usually walk over there every once in a while to make sure it's still going. I have a hot corner that makes my screensaver go. Usually once a wedding or something somebody will touch it trying to make it go faster or something. I just smile and tell them it's just a screensaver and then they usually leave it alone. smile.gif

Kinda frustrating though. But, not to big of a deal.

I don't know if it is like this in earlier versions of OSX but with Tiger if you select the contents of a folder and then crtl clik, you have an option for a slideshow. It is sweet and it has some cool features that I use when showing pictures to a client.
Chris Humphreys

That's pretty cool! I never knew you could do that!

Thanks for the tip!
