I was contemplating on getting an 800 number for our studio as we have grown to the point over the years where I think this might give us more of a professional look to current and future clients.... there are plans as low at 9.99/month which are very reasonable. I was just wondering if anyone else has done this for their business and if they felt it was worth it to do so?

I've had one for 5 years now. More and more people don't use it ... simply because most people are now on some kind of "unlimited long distance" plan with their cell phones or even their home phones. Anyone who uses any kind of VOIP has unlimited long distance as well. I think it's simply becoming a non-issue.

I have a toll-free number because I use a "Unified Messaging Service" and at the time they didn't have local numbers in my area. I agree with Karen that it is no big deal any more since (almost) everyone uses cell phones and has free long distance.
But, I said "(almost) everyone" because even though my wife and I both have cell phones, they don't get good signal in the house, and in order to save money, we do not have a long distance service for our home phone.

I recently got an 800 number. I got it so people don't immediately think of me as being "out of their area" when they see my phone number. Not because of long distance fees - but location.

Interesting perspectives, thanks for the replies..... I think for now, I'm going to leave things as is as I'm not sure the cost would pay for itself right now. Thanks again

We just got rid of ours. I found that my out of state relatives were using it more than my clients.
