So typically on an engagement shoot I leave a small camera bag with additional lenses in the couple's car and then shoot with just what I need. Well yesterday, I put the lenses I wanted available and just-in-case batteries etc. in my fancy, schmancy Shootsac and left my camera bag back at their house locked in the trunk of my car.
Sure enough, we get to our location, climb out, start shooting, and somehow their car never got locked. When we got back her purse had been rifled through, wallet and cell phone stolen. I feel sooo bad for her as this was another in a string of very upsetting events lately. It's just not what they need to deal with right now. But having an easy, convenient, comfortable way to keep my lenses with me saved me from having a fortune in lenses stolen from their car too!
I thought that having a bag that actually fits might alter how I shoot. Well, apparently, it also altered my ability to keep my equipment safe. Cool.
(Also, for anyone interested, I snagged the Crumpler shoulder pad off my husband's camera bag and it worked really well for distributing the weight over the course of a full day wedding shoot. It ain't sexy but it did the trick.)
