Are you importing directly from your memory card, or are you copying your images to the HD and then importing into LR? When I try to import directly from the card, it takes FOREVER! Seriously, like 3 hours for a 2GB card. Importing after I've copied them to my hard drive speeds it up a quite a bit, but it's still slow-ish. I have issues with PS CS2 being super slow also, though, so I'm thinking about another GB of RAM - I only have 1 right now.
I have multiple Lexar card readers that I use to download all my cards after a wedding. I then use LR to import the folders and it's still super slow. Lightroom doesnt let you import from multiple cards, and as you noted having it import from your HD is much faster.
And today I noticed another issue. It wasnt importing all the files in the folders!
When i import the files after an event I keep the images from each camera in a separate folder for a couple reasons - sometimes the cameras end up with the same file number series so i dont want them to overwrite each other. Plus I like being able to seee which images came from which shooter - we shoot as a family and can have as many as 5 cameras with images - there are four of us, and we also have another cam we use - a Rebel with a fisheye I have on a monopod with a cable release so we can stick it up in the air for some great crowd shots, etc... So we can end up with images from lots of cameras.
So I'm just finding a lot of this that takes more time that is worthwhile so far for me, which is really a bummer as I like the LR interface and what it lets me do to the RAW images.
I've heard that I can do alot of the same things within Bridge from CS2 - is that true? It seems that if I use Bridge and it can do all LR does except the the database functions then I might be better off to just go to that since I already own CS2 and Bridge.
I looked at Bibble and ACDSee Pro and i'm not sure they are as easy to use as LR or Bridge but I'd like to hear if anyone has different thoughts. I also like the non-destructive aspects of LR.
Anyone else with an opinion or viewpoint?
