This is my first album. I have allowed the bride to select images that she prefers due to the conservative and religious nature of the couple. I have compiled this album with these photos. Please share with me anything you would change or like about the images. Thanks to anyone who takes the time to do so! 51.gif

Oh my... they are out of order and i don't know how to put them in order! Sorry.

I also submitted an alternative to one of the images layout...

Looks like you were able to capture the emotion of the day, and the album pages do tell the story. Great job. I stink at album design, so I'll leave the critiquing up to the pros.

You are only 5 hours away, we need to hook up for a shoot sometime smile.gif

I don't normally like coloured backgrounds but I like the pink page. It's pretty good but I'm not a fan of the overlapping images/boxes.

Hi, Tawny

It's a pretty straightforward, no nonsense design, so there really isn't much to critique about it. However, I will tell you that I don't care for the pink background or accent. Being that there are so few pages, and almost all being black or white backgrounds, the pink throws off the feel of the book. If you really want to leave the color, maybe lighten it up so that it isn't so overwhelming (I think the color distracts from the images in this simple design).

I'm not a fan of the overlapping images either, but given the number of pages, you don't have a lot of options for placement of those three on the cake page. But again, I think using the pink strip makes that page look much too busy.

Hope this helps in some way!

Ok... I appreciate the feed back sooo much. I changed the layout and knocked out the three images i had to squeeze in due to the lack of pages. i hope that this looks better??? Also, what is the difference in a straightforward album and an album that isn't straightfoward? i don't want to lack creativity, but I want it to look smooth too. Any suggestions?

Hi, Tawny

All I meant by a "straightforward design" is that it doesn't include graphic enhancements or elaborate image layouts ... it's very simple. The images are laid out "block" style on the pages with clean black and white backgrounds. Nothing at all wrong with that. In fact, design, just like many things, is subjective.

While I do like prefer the new spread with the cake shot, I think that background image looks odd being off centered and partially hidden by the left side images. I'm being picky, and it's just my design preferences. Is that cake shot cropped? if so, I wonder if you could use the full image to fill the background.

LOL... Yes... i could use the full image as the background I just felt like I did that on so many of the other spreads. It is soooo funny because this is the page that I really just hated. I don't like the cake in the background and may change it to a different layout all together. Let me work on it and I will repost it and if you have the time, please see if it looks better. Thanks so much for the help!!! I really want the couple to be happy. - biggrin.gif

It's funny coz I was only just mentioning to someone earlier today about not liking background colors in album design (other than black, white, cream) & they replied back about not liking overlapping images and both of those have come up here. Those are really the only two things I'd mention about your design, otherwise it's very good especially as it's your first. If the bride is desperate for pink, then make it softer and paler so it doesn't stand out as much. I'm certain she's going to love her album though!

hi Tawny,

i like the idea here. you've got a lot going on, but in an 'even' way. i do like how you kept all the inset images the same size and that your strokes around the images are consistent. you did a really good job on your first book! It's hard when you are given the images to use!

i would like to see how it would look if you had fewer images per spread. even though the client chose the images, do you have to use them all? if so, can you add a few more pages to spread them out?

here's a tip for using color...first in a book like Tawny's, make it really pale. and for all books, i steal the color from an image in the book.
here's an example of pink. the whole wedding was pink. i stole the pink from a flower in the flower girl's basket so that the color is exactly from the right color. i don't usually use pink, but it worked here and i think it works on the page that you used it on. for your album the color is good, but the shade is off a little and it seems a little rich.

Tawny great job on the design. I love it. I am in the process of designing my first album right now. Anyway great job.
