Hi all!

I have the opportunity to mentor a 15 yr. old girl in photography. A friend of mine is assistant director at a ministry that works with youth - inner city, kids who've been in trouble with the law, etc. This girl expressed an interest in photography so my friend thought I would be perfect to chat with her.

I would love to get a book for her that would very simply explain the basics of photography. Something that wouldn't totally bore a 15 yr. old girl. smile.gif I don't want to get too technical on her, but I thought it would be a nice gift for her and something to help her get started. Any suggestions?

She also has a baby so I am going to give her some tips on photographing her little one, too. smile.gif

Any book suggestions would be awesome!!!!
Thanks!
Kris

What you're doing is so awesome! smile.gif Kudos to you.

How about How To Photograph Your Baby. I always recommend it to new moms. Not very technical but gives good tips about capturing details, using natural light, taking more than one exposure, etc. It's a beautiful book, with lots of inspiring pictures, so it's not overwhelming at all. And the concepts can be used beyond baby portraiture.

Thanks Nely! I'll look into that one. smile.gif It sounds like it would be perfect for her.

Any other suggestions out there? smile.gif

How about Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson? Maybe more technical than you are after, but a great read!

How about Scott Kelby's Digital Photography book? I think it has some info for point-and-shoot digital cameras, not just SLR's (in case she doesn't have one yet). Also Me Ra Koh has some great photography tips specifically for moms on her blog. http://www.merakohblog.com/category/tips-for-moms/
