Sorry to bother you all again. One quick more logo choice. I've been using the one I created for about a month. Was working with a designer I found on the internet for the past few weeks but we didn't click at all. Came up with nothing and I'm out my deposit of $90. Oh well, we tried!
I had a brainwave today as I'm really frustrated with trying to obtain a "professional" logo that appeals to a variety of people. I know the spiel, pay a professional and I was doing that just last week. It didn't work out and I don't have any money right now to hire somebody else.
Option 1 is my current logo:

Option 2 is my newest brainwave:

Oh and the "J" to the side of Option 2 would be used for branding purposes like blog images, vinyl stickers, etc.
Simple: pick one let me know why. Stay with the old, go with the new?

I like your "brainwave"! I really like the J on your new one as opposed to the JD in the old.

Thanks for the votes so far--could you quickly explain what you hate/love about whatever choice you choose?

Thanks - I feel like using your two initials is so common and that was frustrating me! I've always been a fan of the simplicity of "Times New Roman"-ish looking fonts as well.

i like your first! but still use the new 'j' for your branding and what have you. its hard to decide.... isnt it!

Hmm. It's turning out with the results quite even! Honestly, I like the 2nd a LOT more. I think it's cleaner and I like that there is no "photography" in the logo.
But at the same time, it's hard because it's MY logo. Sure, I want to love it but the main objective of a logo is to draw attention to your business isn't it? The general public has to like it as well.

ok, here is what i dont like about the second - the spacing - something is slightly off, and i can't quite pinpoint but it just doesnt look right to me. i love the idea and how you have designed it, but to me it looks a little cramped.
why dont you just take the photography out of the first?

I voted for the first...I like the photography, but maybe it is just the third color that I am liking....maybe add some grey in the second one

Stay with the old..just spice it up a tad. I do like the font for the second one. I don't like that the height isn't consistant with the second one though. I wonder what all lower case would look like. I really like the jd thing in the first one. So I tried to photoshop a third option for you.

Why do you need to change your logo??

I just don't think my old logo is professional-looking. I think it rings of amateuriety, but it seems the overall vote here is stay with your old. I also don't really like the idea of "photography" in my logo name, I think it's redundant.
Thanks for the input everyone.

I actually like what you've done with the 2nd try. I'm not sure how I feel about the placement of the 3 dots on the right - they actually feel a bit distracting. Maybe try making them smaller, or losing them altogether. I think you have a VERY strong possibility of branding the "j" by itself on the rest of your materials. Good stuff.

Nope.

I don't like those little dots. Actually, I like the first logo best by a long shot. It has a much more professional look, IMO.

Alright. I guess I'll keep the first one! Too bad because I really like that second one

Jamie, When I noticed your logo awhile back it was my favorite one! I thought the brown was cool. I have to say that I like the logo Lyndi did for you too! I have a j in my name too so I really like how your using the single initial.

Hi Jamie.
This is an area of specialty for me - I work in Marketing and branding, so I hope you take my comments to heart.
Logo one is far easier to read and understand. It also looks much more professional.
The leading (spacing) on the second logo doesn't quite work and more importantly, it looks like both your first and last name start with a J since it's in front. My eyes went directly to the dots and then I had to go back and start over again - too confusing.
Stick with what you have and put meaning into the experience that goes along with it.

Love 1 alot. 2 seems too spaced out and not tight and clean if that makes sense. Great logo though.

I actually like the first one quite a bit more. I might consider making the blue dot orange - though I'd have to see it to decide.

Maybe?
I changed the color of the dot and added in the neater font.

I'm not sure about the whole name, but I really like the "J". It is very simple and clean, but different from what I've seen other photographers do. Very graphic.

I like what you've done with the latest version. I would like to see how it looks with the "little d" all the way inside the circle and not overlapping it... OR... if you extended the top of it a little further outside of the circle. As it is now, it almost looks like an accident because it's barely overlapping the circle.
