Ok I've read lots of stuff on here and thought I knew what i needed to get, I called BH and they managed to get me confused.

I know you all can set me straight.

Goal: to have a camera with a PW on it that sets off a 580 on a pump cup on the wall. I am not currently planning on having a quantum battery pack hang off this thing (too heavy) but just in case, lets assume it worked and i wanted to have the battery pack connected for rapid fire flashing.

If I understand correctly, the camera only needs the PW attached.
The pump cup needs a flash, a cable of some kind, a PW, the cord for the quantum and the actual quantum? this is where I think I am missing items.

I think that I need:

TWO PW Plus II transceiver (they're like $188, right?)
A umbrella/softbox/lightsphere
a pump cup
PWMHSF1 - what is this?

here's the link to the pump cup,
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/2060...p_Cup_with.html

what item would need to connect the flash to the pump cup, the flash to the PW?

AND AM I MISSING ANY OTHER ITEM? OR BASIC CONCEPT OF HOW THIS GOES?

and yes, i'll take a tripod with me just in case. We are attending a good friends wedding this weekend and it's a great time to try stuff out with no pressure.

I know this is a repetitive question, but I would greatly appreciate input.

Thanks in advance.

nobody?

You need a hotshoe connector for the flash. This one has the cord to the PW attached: Paramount Miniphone to hotshoe

You might also want a swivel umbrella adapter? I don't know if that would be too much to hang from the suctions cup: Umbrella mount/swivel

But anyway, the cord above will hook the PW to the flash and the hot shoe will screw to the suction cup, so you should be good to go with just that....

Good luck, I hope it all works the way you want!

I'd save my money.

I'm mostly a natural light shooter.. I hate using flash but when I do I'm trying to get more and more creative with it so I really want to get into off camera stuff. My assistant Bryce pointed me to a thread from Matt Antonio and he was playing with some triggers from gadget infinity I think (find Matt) I grabbed a set and they work great so far.

I've only tested them around the house so I've no idea how well they will work at a shoot with all the ambient emf going on. At a wedding I'm sure all the guests cell phones, dj equipment, wireless mics, and event staff walkietalkies can do to them but I'm really looking forward to playing with them.

The best part.... less than 40$ was spent!

I had a set of those to learn with. I'd be careful at a shoot, the set I had would occasionally fire on their own or not fire at all. Hopefully, you'll have better luck. You should really push them to see where they are limited. It would be a pain to lose a shot to lights not going off.

If you shoot mostly available light, then PWs would be money invested into something you won't use all too often.

So the RESULTS....

yes the pump cup will hang on a sort of textured wall, you just check it often. Do be careful about flat paint that has been painted over several times.

we had these cool wooden panels in the reception room so the cup stuck really really well, BUT the dance floor was a good 15 feet away from the flash, and they never turned down the lights.

I'll definitely be getting a stand as well, because this is cool. I'd say for the $50 bucks the pump cup is worth having if only to have options for different room setups. (you know some rooms don't have a nice spot for the stand to go) However, in this case, a stand would have been better.

Those that do this with the pocket wizard, what do you set your flash to that is on the stand. Manual? at what?

Glad you're finally getting the off camera lighting to work! wink.gif

Your pump cup pics lokk fine, but for me, it is too dangerous, sorry. I stay with my bogen superclamps, it's way safer and I don't have to check them every five minutes...
