Full Version: I did it. I came to the dark side.

I did it - I bought a MacBook Pro yesterday. I swore that I'd never buy a mac, but alas, it has finally happened, and I couldn't be more excited! My old laptop was one of those huge 17" HP ones that weigh like 25 pounds, and I just got sick of it not working, and being heavy.

So I went in to buy a MBP, and came out with a MBP, new iPod, and a printer. Sweet.

Don't worry, I've still got my sweet PC editing workstation powerhouse, and I plan on continuing to use it for all my editing, but this MBP is really sweet.

I think the best part is the magnetic power cord.

Anyways, just wanted to share the excitement!

I went to the apple store yesterday to get a replacement battery for my wife's ibook, and was checking out the 24" iMac and it's a tempting option in terms of saving space and such. But I'm also torn between getting a notebook or desktop computer for my best purchase, so I don't really know what I want anymore lol

I just wish apple would try to compete with PC's on price, it would definitely convert people like me who are sort of on the fence with the two formats.
joji
congratulations!! sounds like you got a very sweet deal with all the extras. I also continue to use windows many years after switching, mainly for database stuff and the occasional games wink.gif

I agree - the pricing is a tough pill to swallow, but I really felt it was worth it to have a notebook on the road with me at weddings for slideshows and such that "just works" and is really easy to use. So that's where the MBP came in.

However, I don't think I'll be getting a desktop mac anytime soon, my PC editing workstation is so dang fast and powerful, I'd be dumb to upgrade it!

Hey - does anybody have a copy of Photoshop CS2 for Mac that they want to get rid of?

Oh, and that photobooth thing was cracking me up. My wife was like "What's so funny?"

I love making faces as much as the next guy.

Congrats! I just got an iMac and I love it! Now I am thinking of getting the MacBook Pro.

Congratulations!! Excellent choice, imho. I picked up a Powerbook about 1 year ago after using the PC for years, and I now do all my imaging work on the Mac. I wouldn't be surprised if you end up doing the same transition.

However, I still use my PC workstation for business foms and album designs, since I use Lumapix Fotofusion for design (PC only). I like this software enough that I recently upgraded to a Pentium 4 Dual and love it!

Congratulations are in order. You're smart for relenting. thumbsup.gif

I dont think that you came to the darkside. The fact is that you were living in the dark and have now come into the light!!

It's not the dark side....you just found the light! smile.gif

I just made the switch to my first Mac about 5 weeks ago. I'll NEVER go back. I love my 20" iMac!

Edit: I guess Jason beat me to it. smile.gif

That's what the guy at the Apple store told me, with a half-grin! The store here in San Diego has been so busy that I actually made an appointment to come in and buy the MBP, so I had this Mac expert who was blocked out to hang out with me, and me alone for half an hour! So we got into a lot of deeper discussions...ahhhh!

My PC is a Core2Duo too (2.4ghz) and I've got 4 gigs of RAM in it, so I'm putting that thing to use for quite some time!

Hahaha! That's one way of looking at it! My first computer was actually a Mac, years and years ago, and then I got really fascinated with building computers and stuff, so I went the PC route for like 15 years, and now I'm kind of returning to my youth, right?

I hope to be following you very soon!

Did you go to the Fashion Valley store? It is the size of a large closet right now while they go through a re-model.

I was down at Fashion Valley a week or two ago and found out about the remodel, so I went to the UTC store, which worked out well. I do like the Fahion Valley store better, though, and I'm excited to see what the remodel brings - do you know?
Aaron
I don't think the change will be too drastic. The size of the store will remain the same.

I'm already addicted! I found myself up into the wee hours last night playing with all the stuff on my new Mac. I can't even say which feature I like best, because I basically love everything!

Haha the magnetic power cord was one of my favorite things when I got my MBP too. Ingenious!

why does everyone refer to apple as the "dark side"? being on an apple has to be one of the most enlightened experiences someone can have on a computer. i would think that being on a pc is the "dark side" of things. i mean bill gates hasn't come out with really cool toys that make me think we could cross paths at a starbucks. steve jobs just has that "likebility" about him.

Ugh! I can't wait to make the switch soon!!! Just saving up the dinero.

My PC is dying a sloooooow death. I seriously stress out having to sit down at this thing and edit mad.gif

I know! So cool smile.gif It's funny, last night I had the MBP sitting on the coffee table, with the cord running across to an outlet, and my crazy cat came hauling through the house, and tripped over the cord, which came out of the MBP no problem. The computer didn't even move. I fell on the floor laughing at my cat, though. Silly Gracie.

Well, being on the PC side of the debate for years and years, that makes Apple the dark side (to me). I'm freaking loving my new mac though! Love love love. I kind of want a desktop too now. smile.gif

Totally worth it! Make the switch! One thing to keep in mind though is that your PC licenses for software (Photoshop, Bridge, etc) won't work on your Mac. So budget re-purchasing all that, too. I was able to pick up a copy of CS2 for the mac on the cheap, which was sweet.

Hahah!

Hey, anybody got any good recipies for what to cook on the back of the MBP? It gets so dang hot! I'm thinking about making breakfast on it tomorrow morning.... wink.gif

I took my new toy with me this weekend for a wedding that we shot, and I got to use it for my first ever on-site slideshow of the day's images, and I've never been more happy with my purchase! I shot RAW, downloaded the the computer, and pulled my favorites and ran some batch processing on them, and it couldn't have been easier.

I booked two weddings on-site as a direct result of the slideshow. The MBP has paid for itself in a week! Yeah!

How can buying a Mac be going to the dark side?????

I'm confused.
