Full Version: Embedding into Wordpress

I host a wordpress blog on my server and I can't get it to embed a show onto my blog.  I'm using Showit v2.6.  I have "embed" and and "ask to play" checked.  The code that it gives me is:

<object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="500" height="333" id="showit_swf" data="http://www.joshgoodman.com/Lucero/showit.swf"><param name="movie" value="http://www.joshgoodman.com/Lucero/showit.swf" /><param name="flashvars" value="showit_embed=http://www.joshgoodman.com/Lucero/|500|333|1|1|0" /><param name="wmode" value="transparent" /><param name="salign" value="LT" /><param name="menu" value="false" /><param name="loop" value="false" /><param name="quality" value="best" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#D1E5Aa" /></object>

When I enter it into the code tab in my wordpress blog, it will only show a black or white box that is the size of the show.  If I switch back to the code tab, the code I entered above has changed to:

<object data="http://www.joshgoodman.com/Lucero/showit.swf" width="500" height="333" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" id="showit_swf"></object>

It does this on it's own...I didn't change anything.  What's going on?

I can get the show to embed if I use the "Iframe" button, but then it's way too big to be used on my blog.

Here's a link to the full sized show:  Full Sized Link

Help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Josh

Have you tried posting it using the "code" section instead of the WYSIWYG option in a WordPress post?

I am about to create my first slideshow to post online, and I'm using WP too on my server, so I'll let you know how I do it. (Or if it won't work for me either!)

I use the IFrame version of the code.

Christine...I am using the code section..

Eddie.....how do you resize the show using the IFrame version?  If I change the size in the code, it resizes the window, but keeps the show the same size so that only a portion of it is visible in the resized window.

Well, I got the Iframe version to work in my Wordpress blog by changing some settings (embedd, resize) in Showit.  I also had to do some copying and pasting into a separate folder on my server and changing the path that the Iframe code gave me because I already had a full sized version of the show uploaded to my server. It's kind of a PITA to do, but it works.
If anyone can figure out how to make the "Embed Code" work in Wordpress, I'd be grateful because it would be so much easier.

Thanks,
Josh

Search on wordpress support forum on embedding...I haven't checked lately since I gave up when I first put up my wordpress site, but at the time they said that embedding was not allowed for security reasons. I haven't checked to see if they now allow that feature in the newer releases, but you may want to look into that.

I know there are others here with WP blogs that post SIW slide shows, maybe other can chime in.

IF you are using Wordpress 2.3 and Showit 2.6:

1) Download and install: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/tinymce-advanced/

2) In the control panel for the TinyMCE Advanced add the "View HTML" button.

3) Use that button while editing the post and paste in the Iframe code.

Good Luck.

Turn off the WYSIWYG editor (like mentioned) (go to users click your user acc and it should be a check box right at the top left) and then when you go to make a post with a show hit the CODE button, insert the embed code, then make sure you hit the close tags button and walah...it works! =)
