I have taught myself everything about photography so far. I have obviously learned TONS AND TONS from this forum and the Pictage forum, but as far as hands on training, one on one mentoring, etc, I have done it! AAHHH!!

So, that scares me b.c where do I go from here???I have so much more to learn still, but dont know how to teach myself! AHH!!

Just wondering what you are do....

hang out with others... smile.gif

I hear ya! I'm mostly self-taught too...

Our OSP gatherings have been great! Looking at other websites and portfolio's works for me too--trying to figure how and why people do what they do....

And setting aside time to specifically try something new... like a shooting at night session that Julie and I did last winter (boy was that a cold idea!! wacko.gif )

Mellissa,
My teacher's taught me that even the best schooling will only teach you 10% of what you need to know, with that said; read, practice, workshops, practice, seminars, practice, hang out with other photog's, practice, etc...

learn by video, tutorials, forums, books, everything you can get ahold of. smile.gif I'd start with Photovision & DigitalWeddingPro, then SimplePhoto.TV

I agree...I am just starting out...very slowly and trying to learn...now where did that last hour go? Oh, now I remember, mattAntonino<dot>com.

I love your website Munchy...I think I have talent...now if I could just find the confidence.

We should all get together again to do some shooting...

I don't think the training whether it be self taught or from others ever ends. Mentoring has proven invaluable to me (Kevin Swan, Jennifer Driscoll) and that is something to continually seek as well. I think it was Mike Colon and David Jay both, who emphasized pushing yourself further in how you take images. Always striving to do something different and more creative than the last time you shot. For me, it's also a lot of mental preparation prior to the shoot visualizing what type of images I want to see in the end.

There are also many other aspects of this business that deserve the same amount of attention. Marketing, relationship building, business practices, are all areas to improve on. So I think to answer your question.... you can never teach yourself enough.
