i shot a session raw yesterday, my first one since i made the switch.
Came home with 200+ images, hooked it up to my comp and then waited for almost THREE hours for the complete transfer.
Should i get an external card reader? Or do they normally take a while?
And if i DO need one, are there any recommendations??
thanks everyone!

Oh My! That's incredible. You're hooking your camera directly to the computer? No No No, you need a card reader. Even a cheap $10 one will work better than the camera.
Lexar has a brand new one out that'll work with their UDMA 300x cards. One's a Firewire 800 and one's a USB. The USB one works with both CF and SD cards -- nice. I'm sure they'll be more than $10, though. Probably along the lines of $70 or so.

There are also far more problems re: corrupted files when attaching your camera to the computer vs using a card reader to transfer the files. (i read this on another board a long time ago, but I don't have the link) I would def. invest in a decent card reader.

Wow.....3 hours!!!
You'd better get in your car right now and pick one up!
You could do that, go out to dinner, run 3 miles, do the laundry, make some phone calls, read a magazine, and still have time to download 200 images in less time than you did before.

Just saw this thread - hope you picked up that Sandisk or other reader. The Sandisk CF Reader is SUPER fast. 200 photos is more like a 60 second job.

Where did you find the UDMA reader? I haven't seen them anywhere for sale, yet.
