Full Version: Question for Aperture users
OpenSourcePhoto > Digital Photography > Post Processing

For all Aperture users, how speedy is it for you?

I'm using a PowerMac G5 Quad 2.5 with 3GB of Ram. In theory it should be very snappy. I've probably got about 50,000 photos floating around in there. So why does everything take forever? Any kind of processing takes a while and when I open Aperture, the G5 sounds like a jet taking off.

Other than the speed, I absolutely love it.

Anyone else having speed issues or is it just me?

At least your answers were speedy. biggrin.gif

I'm just glad to know it's not me. Everyone else has to suffer too.

i had this same problem on my imac. every time i did anything, it just took forever..... now here is what we discovered, and, it more than likely is not your problem, but.. ya never know... somehow my antivirus software had been set to scan each photo everytime i did anything - i know it sounds wierd to have antivirus software on a mac, and that is another story....

so we adjusted it and TA DA.... it runs like a dream now.

its much faster however, every now and again, i keep getting the stupid 'beachball' and i have to reboot and then its fine.

I'll have to check the previews in the background thing. I think I'm running 1.5.2. It's been slow ever since 1.0. Maybe 1.5.3 fixes that.

I don't have any anti-virus software set up.

Thanks for the advice.

Ok, I just upgraded to 1.5.3 and if anything, it's actually slower.

I'm going to add another 2GB of ram in a few days and see if that helps. Surely 5GB of ram will be enough.

However, I did finally buy a hard drive big enough to hold my Aperture Vault for backup so that's good to feel safe.
