Full Version: MonoLight at Reception?

I'm in an experimental lighting phase right now, trying new things and hoping to get some great results. I've just purchased some pocket wizards and am going to be bringing a small Monolight to a wedding with me to try some off camera lighting stuff. Has anyone tried this before?

It is a small wedding - I believe the bride told me 29 people... so I imagine it will be a small dance floor. I plan on setting up the monolight close to the DJ set up, or just a little out of the way, but using it as an off camera flash.

I'm going to do my best to keep it out of the way and relatively unnoticeable.

Suggestions? Ideas?

go for it! I've been using an off camera 580 at my last few receptions with fantastic results. Be sure to post up some shots afterwards!

I will for sure... The wedding is June 2nd, so I'll have a week to practice.

a great shot is putting the light below and behind the cake.

We just concluded Zack's OneLight workshop this morning at 3 smile.gif I can't put into words how much this would give all the tools to get where you want to go with lighting.

My BIL found a video light at a garage sale and bought it for me ...... I used it for the very first time and my very first wedding shoot!!! I was a bit gutsy because it was my brothers wedding and he and his wife know how crazy I am with photography.

I just about burned their retinas with this massively bright light but I love the effect.

Them sitting outside by on outside fire on the deck....light shining on them till I thought I liked it and WHAMO---picture taking.

Maybe not for everyone???
OOPPPSSS---- I am on my laptop and not hooked to my harddrive....well....go to my blog site and there is an example...SORRY!!!

Eric, great idea for a shot. I think I'll try it out.

Nate - I've been wondering for a long time when we are going to get Zach out here to Texas for a One Light. I can tell you I will be first on the list for that... I've only heard the best reviews from the workshop. For now I guess I'll be wingin' it.

Thanks y'all.

Bob- I am part of Dallas "Misfits" (something Fred Egan put together here in Dallas) we have also talked about needing a Onelight seminar in Dallas. That would be awesome! Maybe it should be discussed more!!!

Can't wait to see how your images turn out. I have been looking for a video light all morning online...any suggestions?? I really don't even know what I am looking for. That's a problem. lol

(this was my first post...wohoo for me!)
