So I went to the One Light SLC a while back and just bought the sunpak 120j flash that Zac used. Well, I think it is missing something because I can't figure out how to mount it to my hot shoe on the light stand....

The bottom of the flash has a hole to thread a screw into and a slot for maybe a card of some sort.

Someone who uses/used this flash help me! What is the piece that I need to buy?

Thanks!
Jacque

Jacque,
you need the correct module for it. The have a generic on that has a sync cord hook up built in or you can get one that is specific to the camera you use. I just got the general one with the sync cord plug to use with my wireless slave.

Would this work??

If I am understanding correctly it would go on the bottom of the flash, then slide into my slave that is on my light stand, correct?

Thank you!

Nope. It's the wrong part. What you need is this one:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/5287...ted_Module.html

It has a middle contact and a sync cord plug in beside you can use a pw or other radio transmitter with.

Thias thing is called Sunpak Standard Module instead of the dedicated ones for use with on camera flash (I think, the dedicated ones doesn't habe a sync plug in!).

Buy it, mount it (it's easy) and use it in the way you told. Use the middle contact of the module or the sync plug in with cable to the slave.

Yeah that's it Mario... i could only find the dedicated ones at first and didn't want to confuse you with the wrong one smile.gif
I have this one also and love the 120j's. Good Luck

You don't need the hotshoe for this to get on the light stand.

Take the brass stud out of the umbrella adapter and it screws right into the bottom of the 120j. I prefer this type of mount over hotshoe flashes anyway because it is more stable.

Cheers,

Sorry, Zack, I think this is wrong or we talk about different versions.

There are two kinds aof Sunpak 120s: 120J Auto which has a 1/4" mount on bottem and you talk about, and another kind calles 120J Auto TTL Professional which is a dedicated one which only works with a module. Theres just a whole and a slot on bottom and both cannot be used with any brass stud or screw. And this is the one Jacque owns.

But in fact, the bottom screw mounted 120J is much more stable than the dedicates TTL version, but also hard to find...
