The Mark II is incredible and here's a shot from an ISO 500 file shot with existing light in the bride's room...and then I crossed it with the

Let me know what you guys think!

I second that with the high ISO comment. I love also love the MANY more ISO choices available on it. No longer stuck the standard (100, 200, 400, etc). How does 125 sound?
Plus that thing sounds like a machine gun rattling off frames. Even tuned down to 6 frames a second it makes the 10D feel like a moped next to a fighter jet.

(perhaps a SLIGHT exageration)...

LOL!

... I actually hate the loudness of the shutter...I find more people taking notice of me during the ceremony....but that shutter sure does fly!

I'm a guy...I don't read or ask for directions
(LB - sorry we get lost all the time!)

...but I did pick up the Mark 2 manual and figured out the personal setting (#21) to switch to quiet shutter mode!
Quite as a whisper! I love it!!!

That's a pretty sweet tip ... too bad it doesn't run that quietly on high speed!

Yea...That'd be nice...I just wish mine would stay on for the whole ceremony! I need a "ctrl-alt-delete" feature on my camera!!! It must be made by Windows!

I don't get it ... why won't it stay on and what does control-alt-delete do for you pc'ers?

Dana,
Have you had any problems with your Mark II locking up? DJ seems to have this problem at least once at every wedding. I've only had it happen once, but it was scary enough. Unforchanetly it was when I was shooting the groomsmen pics so everyone was waiting for me while I was trying to fix it.....
Alt-Ctr-Delete is the key comb that you hit when your computer (PC) freezes up. It automatically restarts it, or lets you choose what program to force quit.
Ah....sooo nice being in the world of Apple. Have I mentioned I love my Powerbook??? Still waiting for it to freeze up once.....

So far I've been living in the "no freeze zone" with both my laptop and my mark II. But I haven't shot a ton with it yet. By the end of the month, I'll have shot about 5000-8000 more images and that should give me a better sense of whether I'll have that problem.

Hey David,
Could I ask which action you used from Nitorix Automactions on the above photo?
Thanks!

That was the Cross Process #1 - it's sweet! I use it all the time!

Also... I just got some 12x18 Mark II prints back today and they were unbelievable! One of them was a 500 iso shot with existing light in the brides room and there wasn't a speck of noice in it! Dana, LB, and Chris can all verify! I'm still baffled by the softness issues in certain lighting conditions. I'm polishing up the old 10d to give it a whirl again this weekend.
Happy shooting everyone!

Hey all,
I think I might have a clue on the Mark II lock-up. I'm beginning to think it's a Lexar issue. While shooting today I kept getting an "Error 02" message in combination with the mysterious red light that never goes out, similar to the lock-up phenom. Turns out "Error 02" relates to the card and the camera having trouble communicating. I think my card is bad and I'll be returning it, but I wonder if some of our issue might be related to Lexar and not just Canon.
By the way, because of the quandary I found myself in and the urgency and sensitivity of what I was shooting (I was doing home visits of dying AIDS victims in a shanty town outside of Cape Town - heart wrenching ...) I didn't have time to figure this out on the fly and decided just to grab my trusty 10D. After shooting basically non-stop with my Mark II for the last six weeks, it was a welcomed PLEASURE to go back to the 10D. It was light, nimble and oddly pleasant. I realize how weird that must sound, but I was surprised at how much I enjoyed shooting jpgs on that little guy.
Speak soon I hope .... I'm about to get on a 30 hour plane ride. Peace.

Looking forward to having you back!
The Lexar thing could be it! I'll keep note of which card I'm using when it freezes and we'll see if we can get this settled. I already had one card go completely bad and I swapped it out for another so it wouldn't surprise me at all if you're right.
Just curious why you went to shooting jpg's with the 10d?
Travel safe!!!

I haven't figured out a workflow that integrates 10D RAW images with my 1D RAW images. Any suggestions?
davidjay

We're going through the 10d images from yesterday and it seems to be pretty much the same workflow as we do when we shoot with only the Mark II's.
Color correct - Export - Combine - Time sort - Rename.
Your card theory may be right on! I had lockups with my #1 card at both weddings this weekend and only one other card related lockup. Good job picking up on that.

Hi David, nice shot! I was checking out the Nitorix site....the automactions look really cool. Do you use often? Anyhow, thanks for responding to my email. The file I invited you to view is an exe slideshow...hopefully it will work on your PC. This is a very cool forum, I like! Thanks for inviting.

Hey Guys (& Girls),
I'm glad you're all posting this discussion regarding lock-ups with Canon & Lexar. I started shooting digitally 3 years ago with a D30, and now shoot with a 10D and D60. I've had problems with locking up on all 3 cameras. It always seems to happen when the aperture is at f4. Canon tech service narrowed it down to the common denominator - the battery grip. That was fixed, but the problem continued. The D60 and 10D were both checked and found to be fine. The problem continued and so the grip was replaced. Then the board in the new grip was replaced, along with a chip in the 10D. I haven't had that problem since, but I'm now wondering if the problem was a Lexar card all along!? I'm going to keep an eye on the cards more closely to monitor the situation. I was beginning to think that I was one of those people whose "energy" creates havoc with electrical & mechanical items, like watches. Anyway, does anyone know how to test a CF card for problems, outside of waiting for the problem to appear during a shoot?
Thanks for your help.

Hey Chris and Mark!
Yea...the Nitorix Automactions are sweet and I use them everyday - no joke - I was gonna say that I use them every day that work...but then I realized that I work everyday!

There are a couple others on the forum who have bought them so feel free to ask their advice as well. I think MusicManChris, Dana, and Mary Jane all have them. Also, I think Forest (the guy who programmed them) is gonna be offering some sort of deal - buy 3 get one free or something like that...or maybe it's buy 2 get one free... I don't even know how many he has up there now but the ones I have are sick!
I know that you can test the Lexar cards with the file recovery program that they come with but I don't think it's an issue of having an all around bad card or even a card with bad sectors which is what the program would find
...I think it is some sort of combination of factors that causes the camera to freeze up similar to a program on your computer freezing up...but I can't seem to narrow it down to much and I can't get it to freeze up when I'm not shooting a wedding so that I can actually take the time to rethink what I was just shooting and maybe write it down or something. It hasn't hurt me yet but it does seem kinda silly that I have to pop my battery off to unlock the camera at nearly every wedding.
Crazy things

I also highly recommend the actions. They're great. They are nice because you can fine tune them as well. Most of them work in layers and so you can edit the layer after you run the action. I say go for it if you have any inclination to do so!

Dane, have you posted any of the images you got in Capetown?
Probably a dumb question here, but what you youall do when you get a lockup (as mentioned in this forum)?? Is it as simple as shutting the camera off/back on again, or do you NOT want to shut the camera off when it's not responding??
