Full Version: Images on a blog - the right click question!

Hi everyone,

My wife asked me a question today about images posted on our blog, and blogs in general. She asked because we have in our packages that they can get low rez cd versions of the images for extra $$$.

"But why are we then posting images online that they can just right click and save to their computer"

Hmmmm good point. I'm inclined not to worry about that kind of thing. I mean if they want the image to email and send around then ultimately that promotes us right?

I'm curious what the rest of the osp world thinks about this.

Any thoughts?

Chris

put your logo tastefully on the image, let them steal it, consider it marketing.

I agree with Kawter (resize to a max of 400x600).

anything on the web can be taken, so once it is up there it is easy to save. The only way to prevent this is to stop posting and this is a bigger loss than the couple of downloaded images.

Yep, everyone is on the right track.

For a bit more explanation here's my solution. EVERYBODY gets a HIGH REZ dvd of 'proofs'. Proofs are right from the camera (OOF, and no flash, and generally horrible shots are edited out). I run a batch levels and sharpen, and deliver the DVD when the album is delivered. Everybody loves it.

Every other image I post on the web has my logo border on it. Period. You can see examples of large images here, or smaller versions here.

I use a company called Photoshelter to provide my hosting (instead of Pictage, PickPic, or the others). It's only $45/month for 100 GIG of storage.

I totally encourage everyone to grab screenshots, right-click images, download copies, e-mail them, put them on mySpace, even send them to friends. It's all great marketing.

The biz model has changed. Sure, we retain copyright, but really who wants someone else's wedding pics? 15 year old girls are using their camera phones at weddings and doing exactly this kind of thing. Why not have that teenager go to your website, and do the marketing for you? In a few short years, she will be your client.

Thanks everyone. That makes total sense.

Now i'm off to find that post about how to add the border and logo on an image as a batch in photoshop!
