Ok so I am noticing a trend with my wedding albums that my clients are ruining the designs! Argh.

Now I already know some of you are going to say thing about making the client happy blah blah blah. But my clients are not the expert/professional and tend to look at it as a scrabook. They want to cram as many pictures as possible in and/or fill up all my negative space.

I, on the other hand, am spending 30-40 hours per book designing beautiful albums only to have the ruined. Today I spent the day actually crying because of how I was having to change an album to make a client happy. It looks cheap, cluttered and not at all how it should.

My clients hire me because they like my style and then ignore it.

I need to change the email I send when their album proofs are online. But I suck at wording so I need help. I need it to explain that the album design is up to the ARTIST (me) and that I am happy to consider resonable photo swaps but I have the right to refuse if the image/s don't fit the flow, purpose, style of the page. I want them to love the album but I want it to be BEAUTIFUL artistically too.

HELP!

Limit the changes to replacing/removing individual photos or adding entire spreads.

I know when Robin was out here, she was talking about her album design and I LOVE her way of doing it she does a pre-design and then says no changes. She does allow them to say I would rather have this picture of the two of us where that one is, but I think she is pretty particular about that. But there is absolutely no changing the layout of the design.

I haven't tried this yet, so I am not sure how easy or difficult it is to say , "Nope, sorry no changes!"

In my mind I would say something like this!

Dear Client,

I am so excited to have created this album for you. Much time, thought and talent went into the design of this Album. Each image was chosen and placed carefully
to create a beautiful professional layout that will allow you to remember your wedding day forever! Please understand that changes to the album will affect the overall presence and mood of the album and therefore, I limit any changes to photo changes/swaps only. The layout will remain the same. Please take some time to enjoy the pre-view of your unique album.

Not sure if that sounds good enough, I have yet to deal with albums on a regular basis ( Hope to soon!) but maybe it is a start for you????

Yes Robin from Bellissima. I only met her briefly one evening, but the info she shared was FABULOUS!
