I delivered a print to a client this afternoon, after they took it to be framed they got it home and noticed a few small shiny spots on it that they don't remember being there earlier. It doesn't wipe off with just a tissue and they didn't want to try anything else so they called me. Is there anything, short of reprinting, that will clean the print without destroying it. I am going to look at it tomorrow to see what our options are.

thanks.

If it is a RA print, not inkjet, try using acetone with a white paper towel. Gently wipe the print but don't scrub it. It will remove the lacquer finish if you had it coated. Be careful not to get it on anything else. Acetone will also remove paint, stain and varnish.

There's a solvent named Bestine that will work when other things won't. If the framer mounted it, it could have been in the press a little too long. It sounds like something that won't get "cleaned" off. If it was oily, it would probably have smeared a bit. Without seeing it, I'd say it would need to be re-printed. Sucks, I know.

I'm a little confused. Is it under glass? Did they take it apart to wipe it with the tissue? A custom frame or a ready-made? If the photo is glossy, sometimes the glass will affect the print -- especially if it was wet at all.
