I read through a ton of old posts, the New School post, Zach's wishlist and I still just can't figure this out. I cannot figure out how I am supposed to hook my PW to my 580. I called B&H yesterday before I ordered them, told them the equipment I have and what I wanted to do with it and they advised me on what I needed... however, I seem to be missing a cord or an adapter or something. There is one plug on the side of my 580 and it's wide, with 3 prongs. I haven't seen anything that looks like this mentioned anywhere and the PW cords most certainly won't fit in there. I did get the cord to hook to my camera, but I just can't seem to hook it up to my flash. ARGH! Please help!!!

Hi Autumn,

This is what you are looking for:

This is what you use to connect your 580 to the PW.

yep - mono plug into the pw going to a hotshoe for your 580EX

The receptacle you described is for attaching an external battery pack like the CP-E3.

There's another way to fire your 580 with the PW... you can have a jack added to it for about $50. I did mine myself for about $5. Personally, I don't think the hotshoe adapters are all that sturdy. I used them before adding the jack.

Here's a link to the fellow that adds the jacks... Michael Bass

Here's a link if you'd like to D.I.Y. or have someone around that's handy with a soldering iron... D.I.Y. 1/8" mono jack on 580EX.

Thanks Dave... So I just put the 580 on the hotshoe, the PW on the cold shoe and the plug goes into the PW?

Yep, except its not a cold shoe on the cord...it is still a hot shoe. So it goes like this:

-1 PW on your cameras hotshoe
-580EX on the cord's hotshoe
-Miniplug end of the cord plugs into the 2nd PW

Hope that isn't too confusing!

You need some "strobe slippers"! I got some and it changed my life. Go to IDC photography, and look in the photographers section. They are the coolest thing. You mount a 580 on one part and a pocket wizzard on the other. I walk around with two of these things in my bag at all times. You can put them on a book shelf, a light stand, or my personal favorite take down a picture and hang it on the wall. I like to put them in several locations around the room. Bruce Dorn is the man!

That's pretty cool Carl, but a little pricey for something I can make myself from a piece of steel from home depot for under $1 wink.gif
