Hi there,

So, I wanted to see what my customers see when they go to order a photo from me via Pictage. I wanted to order 2 of my 8x10's at $15 each, and when you add in shipping and handling (I wanted them priority, as I didn't think I wanted to wait more than 2 weeks to get photos) it would cost almost $20 more to get them here. I think this would reflect very poorly on me as a business person, as it looks like I'm gouging my customers. Anyway, that, mixed with some accounting issues (and I've only been with them for 2 months) is making me think to go otherwise.

I'm thinking of self-hosting and although I loooooove PickPic, I can't afford it. I'm thinking of going with PhotoCart. Is anyone using them? Can I take a look at a gallery or 2 to see if I like it? I've seen the demo and it looks nice (albeit a bit busy), but if its customizable, perhaps it won't be as busy. Anyway, if you are with PhotoCart, can I see a gallery or 2? And could you let me know what you think of it?

Thank you!
Ksenia

We just purchased Photocart a couple of weeks ago and are quite happy with how we were able to customize it.

Hi Ksenia,

I've been researching and trying quite a few alternatives to Pictage. I'm currently considering InstaProofs and self-fulfilling. What appeals to me about InstaProofs is no setup fees or monthly fees. Just a flat comission on what we sell. And they host the images and shopping cart.

Does anyone else have any experience and feedback with InstaProofs???

i love instaproofs! It's so easy and so customizable. You can set your prices and shipping charges. You do have to self-fullfil, but I like to see all my prints before I send them on to the client. Also, Adam is great at customer service. He'll answer questions and even change the way things are set up very quickly (normally the same day!). No complaints here!

I used http://ezphotosales.com/ for mine (self-fulfill) until I signed up with Pictage in December and I am seriously considering going back to it. I went with Pictage for two reasons: to save time and to be able to get the Willow Books. I am not saving time because it takes me SOOOO much longer to set up a gallery, I have to deal with client issues all the time with the slow turnaround times and poor quality prints they are receiving and I just got my first Willow Book and I really don't like it - neither do my clients. So.... all of that defeats the purpose of me using Pictage. I'll have to self fulfill again, but it'll save me a lot of money and headaches from slow turnarounds and poor quality. Okay, off my soapbox... EZPS is great - I really liked it and I know it has been updated since I last used it.

I think I'm sold! I just have to switch some stuff around with my web host and then I think I'll do it!

Who do you guys use for cc processing?

Photocart takes Paypal and paypal accepts all major cc. You need to open a business Paypal account and have a separate checking account, that is it.

I just bought Photocart last week. I am still working on customizing it, but if you would like to take a look pm me. I am also leaving pictage. So far this seems to be a better solution for me.

Here's an interim alternative, should you want to save your pennies to be able to afford PickPic.

Sign up for Printroom.com with promotional code "digitalfirstprod" (my studio ID) and you only pay a $50 fee (regularly $99) for the AN ENTIRE YEAR of gallery hosting and online fulfillment thru Printroom (or you can click here to join w/ the promo code already filled out). If you don't have the volume or the finances to be able to justify Pictage (or you're looking for a quick, simple solution with easy to read monthly statements), consider Printroom.com. Their print quality exceeds Pictage (in my humble opinion). They don't offer the same # of products that Pictages does, but they are a lot more affordable.

PM me if you want or need more information. smile.gif

Well..I got PhotoCart and so far...I LOVE IT!!! I love the branding integration! I love the look. I love the simplicity! It is so easy to learn.

If anyone wants to take a look, you can see it at www.eighthdayphotography.com/photocart

I'm still working on lots of the small things...getting up my pricing, packages, etc. But the core of it is up!
