I have adobe photoshop cs3 with the more advanced panorama stitching feature. I never did a panorama before. I have a tripod, but I was wondering if you could take panoramas without a panoramic head. If you can, please give a detailed explanation on the settings of the camera, the positioning recommended like vertical or horizontal, and whatever else I need to know. Thanks for you help.

I recently discovered a topic I was wishing to be answered. I never learned how to do this and hoping someone can lead me into the right direction. Thanks

Interestingly enough, I feel if you don't have a panoramic head for your tripod, it's almost better to take the pano handheld. The idea of a pano head, vs a standard tripod, is that the lens should stay still while the camera body itself does the rotating. You want it to feel like the tripod was connected to the lens instead of the camera body. So when you put the camera on a regular tripod, the camera body stays still and the lens swings around, when you want the opposite. So if you're hand-holding, what you can do is put your hand under the end of the lens, and carefully hold that hand in the same spot and either rotate the back of the camera around that point, or use your feet to "walk" around the arc. It's not as good as using a pano head, but it's much better than using a standard tripod.
