Ameture photo contests?

Anyone know anything about photo contests? I want to start having some fun with a few photos I've taken. I've google'd it but not sure what contests are legit. Thanks so much

I used to compete online quite a bit (although I'm not as active now) but most of the sites that were once free have started charging "a reasonable annual fee" or closed.

Here are a few that I have bookmarked that are legit:

I'm not a member at all of these sites but this list should give you some options to consider and what's out there in the competition world.
Some people find local competitions to enter.

Maybe some others will have some more ideas.
