Been toying with the idea of changing the biz name to something else than what it is. CMI Photography. I am established in my area, but feel as if it needs a new makover. Not sure if I should go with my name, as most I see have, or go with something with "studio" in it. For instance, Studio 123 or something like that.

Would like to know if it is a smart decision to do, if people have and know the current name already OR if you guys have done so already in this fashion, was it worth it? Plus, Minuses?

What are you trying to gain by just changing the name of your business?

I think if you change the name you should do a complete re brand. New everything.
If the reasoning for the re-brand is to gain more business. You should should figure
out what is good and not so good about the brand you have now. I would hire a professional
to help you through the process. Just changing the name does not mean you are going to
instantly get more business.

My biz used to have a business name but I ended up changing it to my name photography because I found whenever I was doing shoots (mainly weddings, but other ones too) people had a hard time remembering my name and my biz name. So I thought it would just be better to change it to my name. I have noticed a big difference when I am shooting weddings because my brides and grooms seem to act like they know me better now. Does that make sense? Just my $.02, not saying I'm right, just what worked for me.

Not really wanting to gain from the name change. guess it is more for my perception. I would like a new logo, so i guess i would re-brand myself. just didnt know if it was wise if i am already established to change the name and if i did would it be hard to let people know i am still the same

I changed my business name last year from Mountain Meadows to Greta Dawn. I wanted to appeal to a broader clientele than just mountain brides. I definitely noticed a big hit with the number of inquires over the past year.... probably b/c the word 'mountain' is no longer in my name for organic searches. Maybe I wouldn't of seen such a big hit if I would have hired a marketing professional to assist me through the process.

I've been thinking of doing the same. I'm thinking of going to myname photography and even had a logo that I loved made last year when I was trying to figure out all the biz stuff. Still not sure if it's a smart move. I don't have a client base yet.
