Since the last link exchange was lost in the great crash of 2006, here is the replacement thread for it.

You can also link to it via some crazy .php script thingy that Adam Squier can probably explain, as I have no clue how it works, haha.

The rules of the game:
You create an html page that has a link of some type from your splash page, or your main page of your site. That page should include all of the OSP links, and be kept reasonably up to date.

Provided everyone is doing this, you will also see that your page ranking should increase, and the keywords that you're wanting to be searched for will move your page up the google rankings as well.

I'm a member of both the DWC and OSP link exchanges, and can tell you this works. In January 2006, I was not even listed among the top 100 results of google for my search terms. Today, I'm listed on Page 1 of google and google.ca with my relative ranking being about #2 or #3 on those sites.

With over 2000 members here, and less than 100 actively participating, the rate that our sites move up is entirely up to us.

Oddly, I was just thinking about this a few minutes ago. Noticing that no one's sent anything to the list e-mail address in a while. Then it dawned on me -- the thread's gone!

Here's how to get on the list: Send an e-mail to lists@squierphotography.com with your link.

Look at how the previous ones are formatted. There are keywords and sneaky search engine stuff within the links that won't show up in a browser. Here's mine:

The title should have your keywords in it, and so should the text of the link. Things that are nestled between the <strong> tags will be in bold (usually).

I do have a .php script that makes it so your page updates whenever my page is updated. I'll post that shortly, once I find it.

Now, remember to play by the rules. If you send me a link, you must put everyone else's links on a page on your site that can be followed from the home page. It doesn't have to link directly from the home page (though that would be nice). Also, tell me, in your e-mail, how to find the link. I'll go through them again to make sure people are playing by the rules.

Yeah, the HTML can be confusing, so watch for the php script. I'll find it soon.

and I check here to see the new links that I need to add, which is why I was suggesting that people post them up here. Sending the email to you would be another way of doing it as well.

Or perhaps you'd like to send out a batch email to all the people on the list when a new link is added? That might be a better way of doing it for some, as I know that not all people are using the .php thing that you are offering.

OK, here's the PHP script. You'll want to put this in the part of the page that you want the links to show up in (go away, grammar police). If the syntax is incorrect, PLEASE let me know, as I don't actually use this script on my site. I use a DHTML SSI instead, but I think they're done the same way.

VERY IMPORTANT: This script will NOT give you a fully-formed HTML page. All it will give you is a list of links. So make sure you have a page that displays first. THEN copy this script into it. It's formatted as a bulleted list by default. If you don't like the bullets, you can use CSS to change it right before you paste in the script.

Oh, and make sure the extension of your page is .php and not .html or .htm or whatever.

Probably both ways. Post it here and send an e-mail. I was missing some posts and wasn't keeping them up-to-date because of that so I set up the e-mail account.

That way, this thread will get bumped every time someone adds themself. Which would be a good thing™.

I'd like to get in... i'm a smidge confused though... Adam, i went to your site and very easily found the list of links... i opened up the top ten or so links on the exchange and over half i couldn't find the link exchange anywhere... are people leaching off the list? can the linked list be hidden and that's okay with everyone? i looked at the HTML for a couple sites and i know they aren't linking to the list... maybe they just haven't gotten around to it?

i'm not trying to ruffle any feathers... i just don't really want to link to people that aren't returning the favor, you know? maybe people stopped using the list and it needs edited?

make it something like www.thegreatdivorce.com/links.php so its a seperate page. Then have a link to that page from your main page. It can be a invisible link, or hide it in a letter etc.
