The OpenPhotoContest totally took off and we got over 40,000 votes the first day! Since then we've been getting 4000 to 7000 votes a day which is incredible!

I'd like to know what contests you'd like us to put up. I'm thinking we'll do four different categories each month and then just keep'em coming. I listed above a bunch that I could think of but let me know of more.

How does this sound?

What about a separate category for bridal/couple model shoots, or do those fit under "controlled"?

So is the plan to stick with Wedding themes, or are you simply looking into expanding the Wedding themes?

I ask because there are so many OSPers who shoot other subjects. I'd enjoy seeing an expansion in areas unrelated to weddings (Portraits, Pets, Landscape, etc.)

Oh yea - good suggestion. Definitely want to include all types of photography.

Maybe we'll do two wedding themed contests each month and two non-wedding. How does that sound?

I like the Trash the Dress as a category. Also fun to see the creativity. Two a month sounds cool though DJ.

That sounds great to me!!

I realized today that I missed the deadline for the new Animals category. So I'm probably going to have to wait quite some time for it to come up again.

And I wanted that Boda bag, too!! :17:

Don't worry - we are extending the current contests because we had the server go down and we forgot to tell everyone it was closing. :) oops

Hey DJ!I would stay away from flowers and cakes only because the quality of the bouquet and cake have a lot to do with the bride and groom's style. Of course every wedding is that way.... But I don't know... I feel that if there are two shots that are similar in style, the cake with the better design is going to get the vote... and that has nothin to do with the quality of the photo, then! All that said, food shots are my favorite... including cake shots... (eating is my other hobby, ha:))... But I think you'll see what I mean?IMHO. Take it or leave it! Someone may have a good counter-point to this thought. Also, I think the "departure" should include ceremony and reception. We often do "send offs" at the ceremony, since many people don't stay around until the very end of the reception if there is a dance.I like the process of OPC. Just look at how many people you have addicted! Crazy!

How about drunk groom at the ceremony??? I'd win that one just because I feel like it's not too common.(thankfully it wasn't at a church... But yeah. He was smashed through the vows.)

I'm still waiting for a Trash-the-Bride trend to take off. It would only be a matter of time before the best of the best appear on Jerry Springer's show.

Sheesh. First there's the 2nd annual OSP nude fest thread, and now the return of naked avatars? Pretty soon we'll just have to branch off with a whole new forum altogether:

ONP: Open NAKED Photo

:w00t:

LOL!

On another note, I too think it's a good idea to see the addition of non-wedding themed contests.

Keep up the excellent work, and thanks for listening to user feedback.

Let the nakedness continue!

I am proud to be from a place that extends itself far past anywhere that I will ever travel or ever know. I have learned to appreciate the simplicity of life and the quiet nature of things that we so often forget about in the hustle and bustle of our hectic agendas. I love the smell of the ocean, bait, fog, smoked herring, dulse, the dull roar of a diesel engine at dawn, fog horns, waves lapping on the side of a boat, nervous anticipation, that first shot that is always the best one! I love the Lord, my hubby Brad and photography, it is my deepest passion and lifes ambition! I love my family, my Grandparents who I live in amazement at their zest for life. I am humbled by their appreciation for smallest of things. I love raspberries from my grandpa's garden, lobster stew, fried scallops and blueberry pie, all at once!

Trash the Dress or just take it to another level. Cool locals with innovative ideas, themes etc. That kind of stuff is so fun. Maybe a Destination weddings category?? Really out there shots that inspire photographers to think way beyond the typical...i think wedding photography has so many cool places it can go if clients and photographers can stretch the limits!!!
